A sound installation? Concert? Performance?

The Lusorium cannot be entirely captured in words.

And yet ....

The Lusorium is (perhaps): a play of stories, melodies, sounds, and images. A play of space, time, and light. Something that evades reason and takes the senses by the hand. That leads each of us on a unique journey.

The Lusorium signifies (perhaps): a nocturnal adventure, because nighttime sharpens the senses. An audio play framed by light and music, an extraordinary concert space.

A cocoon of sound that enfolds the listeners and carries them to new destinations, free of the boundaries between within and without.

It draws us into stories far and near – dreamlike, vivid, playful. Often puzzling.

The Lusorium: a dramatic composition, which is part thriller, part investigation, part metaphor. A dream sequence and a ritual. Add to that film-like music, performed live by a choir, instrumentalists, and vocal soloists. Melodious songs join striking percussive rhythms in a musical style that resists categorization, slipping among, but constantly evading the genres of pop, chanson, and ambient. And the Lusorium is (also): a specially developed technique of performance and sound design, which brings to life the full depth of three-dimensional space.

"Lusorium" was the name that the Romans gave to their "House of Games". Lusorium (today) is: the vision of Artistic Director Steffen Raphael Schwarzer. Its first manifestation was the production, "Das Winterbett", a sound-space performance in Freiburg, Germany in 2003. The Lusorium began its contribution to Berlin’s dynamic cultural landscape in late 2009 with "The Garden", in Berlin’s Heilig Kreuz Kirche.

The Lusorium is an invitation to be amazed. It is message to the spirit, to the soul, and to the sense of beauty.
